HISTORY

The "Keeper of the Dream" Scholarship was established to increase SUNY Fredonia's recruitment, retention and graduation rate of students in general, and particularly underrepresented racial and ethnic groups - African American, Latino/a, Asian American and Native American. The scholarship program is structured to nurture students with strong academic records through the transition to college, the development of leadership skills and career exploration. Additionally, the program stresses student leadership and a commitment to cultural pluralism.

SCHOLARSHIP

The top scholars selected for the program participate in exemplary academic enrichment and leadership development classes. Student scholars actively participate in the implementation of educational and cultural programs on diversity and engage in cross cultural dialogue with the entire campus community. Students in the scholarship program receive:

* Financial support ($4,000 per year, renewable)
* Individualized college transitional advising
* On-going orientation and counseling
* Peer mentoring
* Faculty and staff interaction
* Leadership and career development training
* Corporate and alumni contacts
* Leadership experience
* On-going assessment and guidance
* Fun and friendship
