The "Keeper of the Dream" Scholarship was established to
increase SUNY Fredonia's recruitment, retention and graduation rate
of students in general, and particularly underrepresented racial and
ethnic groups - African American, Latino/a, Asian American and Native
American. The scholarship program is structured to nurture students
with strong academic records through the transition to college, the
development of leadership skills and career exploration. Additionally,
the program stresses student leadership and a commitment to cultural
pluralism.
The top scholars selected for the program participate in exemplary
academic enrichment and leadership development classes. Student scholars
actively participate in the implementation of educational and cultural
programs on diversity and engage in cross cultural dialogue with the
entire campus community. Students in the scholarship program receive:
* Financial support ($4,000 per year, renewable)
* Individualized college transitional advising
* On-going orientation and counseling
* Peer mentoring
* Faculty and staff interaction
* Leadership and career development training
* Corporate and alumni contacts
* Leadership experience
