Rosa Parks was not tired that day. She was “sick and tired” of an injustice perpetrated by the law. Imagine the courage it took to do what she did on December 1, 1955. She violated “the law”. Many others took up the cause in earnest thanks to Mrs. Parks, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. By the time the resulting Montgomery Bus Boycott was over, segregation laws were becoming history.
Is there an injustice you would like to discuss or expose – local, national or global in scope? Would you like to teach the Fredonia community some way in which the world could be a better place? Established in 1989 by Dr. Vivian Garcia, the Rosa Parks Scholarship was designed to give all the students of SUNY Fredonia an opportunity to voice their opinion on the subject of cultural pluralism in any way they wish. There is a wide variety of media that you can use, and the winners are generally students whose entries are provocative and original, take full advantage of the medium selected, and have a strong emotional or intellectual impact.
